May Staff Reading Recommendations

Our May 2017 staff recommendations come from Danielle Dickens, Circulation Clerk at TCPL. Danielle is an avid reader and has gathered a list of some outstanding YA selections for you to enjoy!

The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon
This book features two characters who fall into an unlikely romance. Natasha is scheduled to be deported back to Jamaica on the same day that she meets Daniel, a Japanese American whose future has been chosen for him. This story takes place over the course of 24 hours, and it’s hard not to read it in as much time.

Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon
By the same author of The Sun is Also A Star, this book is fast-paced, easy to read, and super sweet. The main character has a disease that prevents her from ever leaving her house. That’s never bothered her until she sees the new boy next door. (It’s also being made into a movie!)

I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson
This book currently holds the title of my favorite book of all time. It has lyrical writing, magical realism, and twins. What’s not to love?

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins
This YA contemporary is light and enjoyable. Anna’s dad enrolls her in a French boarding school where she makes new friends and learns how to survive in a foreign country.

Love & Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch
This is the perfect summer book. After Lina’s mom dies, she travels to Italy to spend the summer with her father. As the title implies, she encounters a new love interest and the world’s best gelato.

We Were Liars by E. Lockhart
Although this is a YA thriller, it takes place on a private island during the summer, which is why I classify this as a good “summer read”. One family must piece together the summer when everything changed.

The Selection Series by Kiera Cass
This is The Bachelor meets The Hunger Games. In a futuristic world, the royal family holds a competition called the Selection to find a suitable princess. There’s drama, friendship, romance, and rebellion.
