April Staff Reading Recommendations

Our April recommendations come from Young Adult Librarian Kimberly Burton. We're turning the spotlight on Kentucky authors this month, featuring a variety of outstanding stories and genres. You won't be disappointed with these writers from across our commonwealth!

40 Acres and No Mule by Janice Holt Giles
This autobiography has long been a favorite of mine for its humor and depiction of Giles' move to the countryside as a newlywed.

That Book Woman by Heather Henson
This children's book gives us a great history lesson on a little known aspect of outreach librarianship in the hills of eastern Kentucky, while also demonstrating the transformative power of reading.

Clay's Quilt by Silas House
This book presents eastern Kentucky culture with a sense of warmth, along with a bit of a family mystery.

The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver
This epic novel chronicles a missionary family's life in Africa through the alternating perspective of its four daughters.

Water Street by Crystal Wilkinson
This short book reads like a collection of interlinked short stories and features a voice similar to that of Toni Morrison and Alice Walker.
