June Staff Reading Recommendations

This month, our staff recommendations come from the wonderful Julie Sterchi, Office Assistant and Circulation Clerk here at TCPL. Julie has chosen to share a variety of her favorites from different genres and levels of literature. Each of these books is available at TCPL. Happy reading!

Series: The Cat Who... series by Lilian Jackson Braun
I love this murder mystery series, at least the first 10 or 15 books. The characters are believably quirky, including the two Siamese cats which feature fairly prominently in the plot lines. The tone of the books is fairly light considering they do deal with murder, so these won't keep you up nights with nightmares.

Fiction: The Mountain Between Us by Charles Martin
This one will tug on the heartstrings, so be prepared. A man and a woman, strangers to each other and injured, struggle to survive in the mountains after a plane crash.

Nonfiction: Ghost Boy: The Miraculous Escape of a Misdiagnosed Boy Trapped Inside his own Body by Martin Pistorius
The subtitle says it all. This is an amazing story told by a man with amazing tenacity!

Children's: Mr. Rabbit and the Lovely Present Written by Charlotte Zolotow and Illustrated by Maurice Sendak
This Caldecott Honor Award winner is a classic. The artwork is not Sendak's typical style; this is very soft and gentle. The story has repetition of subject that is appealing to small children without being irritating to the reader. It teaches about colors while telling a sweet, slightly amusing story as a young girl and Mr. Rabbit discuss possible birthday presents for the girl's mother.
